ME2008 Sewing Pattern: All You Need To Know

I hope that you make Know Me Patterns ME2008 and love it as dearly as I do. In this post, I want to share with you everything you need to know about this pattern to make a beautiful version of your very own. I was inspired to create a style that could be dressed up for a night out on the town or down to a picnic in the park, with elegant details and the ease of one outfit decision, instead of two!

It is a wide-legged jumpsuit with a v-neck and a twist-front feature with two views- a cropped length with short flutter sleeves or a floor dusting length with long straight sleeves. Right now, it’s just in print and available at major US craft stores, but will be in PDF online SOON!

Best of all, the pattern has a Sewalong Video tutorial on Youtube to take you along every step of the way in making it.

Choosing Your Size

This version is made in a cupro fabric, with 3/4 sleeves and a neckline raised by one inch.

The pattern goes from hip 34.5in/87cm to 62 in/157.5 cm. On Know Me patterns, the finished garment measurements can be found in the instruction booklet for the pattern and I highly encourage you to choose your own size based on these and the amount of ease you’d like your final garment to have. The Big Five are notoriously known for including a lot of ease (roominess) in their patterns. For reference, I sew a straight size 10 in this pattern and my measurements currently are B24 W27 H36.

This pattern will teach you how to:

  • Bias bind a neckline

  • Sew an invisible zipper

  • Sew waist darts

  • Create a twist construction

  • Construct in-seam pockets

Suggested Fabrics

The versions on the packet covers are sewed in a rayon viscose blend from Lady McElroy and the long sleeve version is sewn in a stretch silk charmeuse. The pattern was designed for wovens, but a stable knit fabric would also do. Light to medium-weight fabrics would be best to keep the front knot from getting too bulky. It’s lovely in rayons, drapey polyesters, linen blends, cotton twill, or many others.

Hacking Ideas

Patterns are meant to be hacked! Let’s see you make it up with your unique style. Some ideas to get you started:

  • Sleeveless (armholes could be bound with bias tape)

  • Romper version - shorts length

  • Big, full puff sleeves or other sleeve options of your choice

  • Raised neckline - to do this, the big dot on the bodice front needs to be raised to the height of your choice and sewn there, no construction changes are needed.

What questions do you have about the pattern? Leave a comment and I’ll try to get back to you!
